Matt Ryan's Contract Converted to Standard NBA Deal by Pelicans
Pelicans Forward Matt Ryan Earns NBA Contract
New Orleans Pelicans Sign Ryan to Standard Deal
The New Orleans Pelicans have elevated forward Matt Ryan to a standard NBA contract, the team announced on Saturday. Ryan, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, had previously been on a two-way contract.
Ryan played sparingly in his first game under the new contract, logging zero minutes and no counting stats in Wednesday's 117-108 loss to the Orlando Magic.
Ryan, born April 17, 1997, in White Plains, New York, played high school basketball at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York. He attended Villanova University, where he played four seasons of college basketball and was named to the All-Big East Third Team in his senior year.
Ryan began his professional career with the Delaware Blue Coats of the NBA G League, before signing a two-way contract with the Pelicans in 2023. Despite limited playing time, Ryan has shown flashes of potential and has earned the trust of the Pelicans coaching staff.
With the conversion of his contract, Ryan now becomes a full-fledged member of the Pelicans' NBA roster. He will look to contribute to the team's efforts to make a playoff push in the second half of the season.
