The Abu Dhabi Games were a valuable opportunity for both teams to fine-tune their rosters and strategies ahead of the regular season. The Timberwolves, who finished with a 46-36 record last season, showcased their improved chemistry and depth.
The Mavericks, meanwhile, will look to build on the lessons learned from these preseason matchups. Luka Doncic, the team's star guard, sat out both games due to injury. His return to the lineup will provide a significant boost to Dallas' offense.
In the first game of the sweep, the Timberwolves pulled away in the third quarter and held on for a 115-108 victory. Anthony Edwards led the Wolves with 24 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 20 points and 10 rebounds.
In the second game, the Timberwolves again dominated the third quarter, building a 20-point lead. The Mavericks made a late run but ultimately fell short, losing 122-119. Jaden McDaniels scored a team-high 25 points for the Timberwolves, while Dončić returned to action for Dallas, scoring 23 points.
The Mavericks will now travel to Melbourne, Australia, for a pair of preseason games against the Phoenix Suns on October 12 and 14. The regular season is set to begin on October 19, 2023.
